The 2017 ‘Shalom | Sydney Jewish Writers Festival’ (SJWF) will take place on August 26 – 27 at Waverley Library, Bondi Junction.

The festival celebrates the richness and diversity of contemporary Jewish writing from around the world. It features authors who are Jewish or whose books are of Jewish interest and includes novelists, journalists, screenwriters, performers and writers of nonfiction. JCA together with Live Love Learn 9:45am – 12:00pm
Calling all kids who love to CREATE, WRITE or ILLUSTRATE!
Drop off your kids (ages 5–10) for a fun morning of creativity brought to you by JCA and Live Love Learn. The kids will construct their own mini zines to take home as well as creating a mixed-medium collaborative artwork that will be featured in JCA’s Art Project. All art materials supplied. Includes morning tea.

Navigating postnatal depression—Jessica Friedmann in conversation with Lana Sussman 12:30pm –  1:30pm
Parents are invited to this informal session in which Jessica will talk about some of the raw truths of her experience with postnatal depression, examined in her book of essays Things That Helped. Child minding (bubs and toddlers) is available and parents will be able to ask questions and engage with Jessica in this casual space. Pram parking available.

Join your kids at the flicks 5:30pm – 7:00pm
Hotdogs, popcorn and a moviewhat better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?One parent can head upstairs to enjoy ‘Story Tasting’ with the Monday Morning Cooking Club while the rest of the family enjoy a movie and dinner. Get comfy on beanbags and enjoy popcorn at the flicks! For parents and kids of all ages (kids under 5 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian).


Food from Mila’s catering will be for sale throughout the festival, as well as barista coffee.
All food is kosher and there are vegetarian and gluten free options available.

The Festival is supported by a group of wonderful volunteers – why not join us? You’ll be helped and guided by the team, make great friends, and be rewarded by being part of a wonderful event. You can help out on the day by collecting tickets, greeting guests and looking after our session rooms.  Each volunteer shift is 2-2.5 hours. Volunteer tickets are only available for Full Festival or Sunday Passes at a 60% discount.

A volunteer briefing will take place at 7:30pm on Wednesday, 23rd August 2017 at Waverley Library. Attendance is required by all volunteers.
