Embark on a culinary journey steeped in tradition and flavour as Shalom’s Jewish Food Festival returns for its annual celebration of Jewish cuisine, culture and food sustainability.

Taking place outdoors in the Eastern Suburbs, the Festival promises a range of food stalls with sweet and savoury delicacies that trace the journey of Jewish migration across the globe. In addition to the opportunity to fress, there will be live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, cooking and sustainability workshops and a dedicated kids area. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible.

Security and First Aid: CSG and Community Health Service (CHS) will be onsite.

Winner of The Great Australian Bake Off, Creative Copywriter and supermum of three littles, Ella’s unique and vibrant concoctions are as wonderfully creative as they are delicious. Ella bakes everything, from the quick and simple to the fancy and fabulous, but what brings her the most joy is crafting playful and creative bakes that make her children smile.

Perfect Challah: Tips and tricks – Ed Halmagyi of Avner’s Bakery @avnersbakery, @fastedmedia

A much-loved TV chef, author and personality, ‘Fast’ Ed Halmagyi is best known for his appearances on Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens. Ed transforms elegant restaurant cuisine into recipes that anyone can prepare at home. His motto is simple – “when you do less, the ingredients can do more!” Ed is a passionate and engaging speaker, chef and cooking demonstrator who has over 10 years’ experience in television and radio.

Jo Taranto is a Sydney-based sustainability educator and speaker. Her skill is dissecting sustainability trends and insights from science and industry. Unpacking the lessons from nature-based research and behavioural science, Jo creates a comfortable space for conversations and insights to develop. Expect to leave with a renewed enthusiasm to lean into the disruption of a decarbonised and circular future.

Don’t be shy – dip in! A threesome of delicious dips – Rami Tal @cookingwithrami

Rami is Israeli-based, Australian cook passionate about Middle Eastern and Mediterranean foods. He loves to cook dishes that highlight the diversity of vegetables. He is currently visiting his hometown and joins us to share his three favourite dips – Lima Bean Hummus, Resek and Zhoug.

WORKSHOP 1 – Dry Hard with a Veg-eance: Drying fruit & vegetables – 10:05am-10:50am

The art of preservation – learn to dry fruit and vegetables at home. All ingredients and equipment provided. Led by Adamama Director Elik Rotenberg.

WORKSHOP 2 – Ferment like a Bubbe! – 12:00pm– 12:50pm

Live a zero-waste lifestyle and learn the basic principles of lacto-fermentation and pickling. Kimchi, sauerkraut, apple cider vinegar. Led by CFO (Chief Fermenting Officer) Mitch Burnie.

WORKSHOP 3 – Home -Shtetling – How to Propagate your own fruit and vegetables – 1:00pm-1:50pm

Learn how to propagate at home with scraps from the fridge. Led by Adamama Director Elik Rotenberg.

WORKSHOP 4 – It’s the yeast we can dough – Sourdough focaccia creation – 2:00pm-2:50pm

Learn to make your own sourdough focaccia with zero-waste decoration. Take home your focaccia and the yeast we can do is is give you the sourdough starter to take home too. Led by Adamama Director Elik Rotenberg.

“Insert famous TV food program” style cooking competitions.
